KOMAD Privacy Policy
This policy explains how KOMAD collects, uses, and stores personal information when you use the KOMAD mobile app and related services (Korean learning, travel planning, and reservations).
1. Information we collect
- Account data: email, name, password hash or social login ID (Google, Apple), nationality, language, age range, profile image
- Learning data: progress, quiz/game results, pronunciation analysis scores, bookmarks, in-app messages
- Travel data: plans, preferences, favorites, location used for transit/weather features
- Reservation data: restaurant reservations created through TableReady integration
- Device/log data: app usage logs needed to operate and secure the service
2. How we use information
- Create and manage your account, and provide learning/travel features
- Personalize recommendations and save progress
- Process reservations you request
- Customer support, security, and legal compliance
3. Sharing
We share data only as needed to operate the service: cloud hosting, restaurant reservations (TableReady), maps/transit/weather public APIs, Google sign-in, Apple sign-in, and OpenAI for Premium pronunciation analysis as described below. We do not sell personal information. This version of the app does not include in-app purchases or payment processing.
Kakao is used to display maps. When you tap a point on the map, we send that coordinate to the Kakao Local API to look up a place name. The lookup result is cached for 30 days. We do not send a user identifier with that request.
Google Places is used to display a representative rating for a destination. A Google rating value older than 30 days is cleared and is not shown. The place identifier is kept so the rating can be refreshed. We do not send a user identifier with that request.
4. Voice Recordings and Pronunciation Analysis
When you use the pronunciation practice feature, your voice recording is transmitted to our servers for analysis.
Standard analysis is performed entirely on KOMAD's own servers using acoustic comparison against our reference recordings. The audio file is held only for the duration of the analysis and deleted immediately afterward.
Premium analysis additionally sends the recording to OpenAI's speech transcription service (Whisper API) to convert your speech to text for accuracy scoring. OpenAI processes the audio solely to return a transcription and does not use it to train its models under its API data policy. The audio file is deleted from our servers immediately after the analysis completes.
We store only the resulting score and feedback, never the audio itself. Recordings are never shared with any other third party, sold, or used for advertising.
5. Retention
We keep account and service data while your account is active. After an approved deletion request, we delete or anonymize personal data within 30 days, except records we must keep for law, accounting, or dispute handling. Deleting an account also deletes that account's ratings, rating tags, and pronunciation analysis records.
6. Your rights
You may request access, correction, or deletion of your personal information. Use the in-app Profile menu or the Account deletion request page.
7. Children
KOMAD is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect their personal information.
